The Serious Illness Conversation Guide: The Role of the Oncology Nurse
Celebrate Oncology Nursing Day with the educators from Fraser Health Authority and the BC Cancer Agency.
For OND 2017, we are planning lunchtime informational sessions for our nursing staff on the implications of the Serious Illness Conversation Guide (SICG) for oncology nurses. The SICG is part of a program developed by Ariadne Labs’ Serious Illness Care Program. Palliative and oncology care professionals in BC are implementing the use of the SICG. Educators from Fraser Health Authority and the BC Cancer Agency have teamed up to liaise with Dr. Gillian Fyles, Medical Leader of the BC Cancer Agency’s Pain & Symptom Management Palliative Care team, who has kindly agreed to present to us on April 4. We have sponsorship by Pfizer for lunch as well. We hope this is the beginning of a process in which our oncology nurses will be able to use the practical skills provided by the SICG as a part of providing excellent patient and family care.
